If you do have an unforeseen problem with your wedding, the most important thing to do is to notify your bridal dress supplier as early as possible. This gives them the best opportunity to work with you towards a solution, writes Michelle McLarnon of No.8 Bridal

Hi Everyone,

Hope all of you had a great Halloween and a very well deserved break from wedding planning.

We over the last few months I have had quite a lot of emails from brides with questions regarding their wedding, so this month I thought I would share some of these with you and clarify a few myths and queries we have had which may be relevant to some future brides situations. Whilst getting married is one of the most special times in your life, sometimes everything doesn’t go according to plan and circumstances can change beyond your control, here are some common queries we have encountered.

There has been an illness in my family and I have to change the wedding date? Unfortunately this is an all too common circumstance in the bridal industry and one we are very sympathetic towards.

Whether you have to bring your wedding date forward or extend it by a year or more, most bridal boutiques will work with you as much as they possibly can. If it means rush orders to get your dress in on time or holding your dress for a longer period of time, my advice would be to communicate with your bridal boutique immediately and let them know as soon as possible so they can help you.

I have to cancel or postpone my wedding, where do I stand?

We understand this is one of the most difficult phone calls to make. Your call like everything else will be treated with the upmost confidentiality. Most bridal boutiques will discuss aspects like deposits and money paid and work with you as much as possible to help ease the stress you are going through.

I am having second thoughts about the wedding dress I’ve chosen, can I change it?

It is quite rare for brides to have doubts about their dress, however if this is the case let your bridal boutique know. We understand the length of time it takes for a dress to come in and sometimes the dress can be difficult to remember. Speak to your bridal boutique and ask can you come in and try your dress on again just to refresh your memory, nine times out of ten you will leave as happy as you did the first time you said yes to your dress.
